Missouri Man Sentenced for Drug Trafficking in Topeka

U.S. Attorney’s Office November 16, 2010
  • District of Kansas (316) 269-6481

KANSAS CITY, KS—A Missouri man who distributed crack cocaine in Topeka, Kan., has been sentenced to 121 months in federal prison, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.

Vinol Wilson, 36, Kansas City, Mo., pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and crack cocaine.

Wilson was one of more than 40 defendants in Topeka, Leavenworth, Atchison, metro Kansas City, and Independence., Mo., who were charged as a result of an investigation by federal, state, and local law enforcement officers code named Operation Stonewalled. The drug trafficking organization targeted in Operation Stonewalled was responsible for distributing more than $10.7 million worth of cocaine and crack cocaine, court documents say.

In his plea, Wilson admitted that he had known co-defendant Thomas Humphrey since they were inmates at the federal prison in Leavenworth, Kan. Wilson initially began purchasing kilogram quantities of cocaine from Humphrey. The largest quantity of cocaine Wilson bought from Humphrey at one time was 10 kilograms. On average, Wilson purchased five kilograms of cocaine at a time. Humphrey delivered the cocaine to Wilson at Wilson’s residence in Missouri. Wilson distributed the cocaine in Topeka and elsewhere.
