  • Public Affairs Specialist Todd Lindgren (513) 979-8347

Keith L. Bennett, Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Cincinnati Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) notes that Sunday December 20, 2009 is the fourth anniversary of the bombing at the Islamic Association of Cincinnati (IAC) facilities at 3668 Clifton Avenue, Cincinnati. Two pipe bombs were exploded outside of the mosque and the offices of the IAC late on the evening of December 20, 2005. The bombs were relatively simple devices constructed with metal pipes, powder and fuses. While no one was hurt the bombs were such that they could have seriously injured or killed anyone in close proximity to them.

To date there have been no charges filed in this matter. SAC Bennett notes that this crime was an attack on one of America’s most cherished freedoms: Freedom of Religion. As a society we can not tolerate those who would use violence to intimidate others in the practice of a religious faith. We should all reject such acts and do all that we can to prevent their recurrence and bring to justice those who would commit them.

This case remains an open investigation for the FBI. Along with the Cincinnati Police Department, Cincinnati Fire Department, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, and other members of the Cincinnati Joint Terrorism Task Force. SAC Bennett noted that the FBI continues to offer a $15,000 reward for information which leads to the conviction of any individual involved in this crime. In addition reward money has been offered by Crimestoppers. Anyone with information concerning this investigation is urged to contact the FBI at 513 421-4310 or Crimestoppers at 513 352-3040.

FBI SAC Bennett is available for interviews concerning the anniversary.
