Brian P. Boetig Named Special Agent in Charge of Buffalo Division

Director Robert S. Mueller, III has appointed Brian P. Boetig special agent in charge of the FBI’s Buffalo Division. Mr. Boetig most recently served as director of the National Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force (NCIJTF), the federal cyber center that serves as the multi-agency, national focal point for coordinating, integrating, and sharing information on cyber threat investigations.

Mr. Boetig began his career as an FBI special agent in July 1998 and reported to the Washington Field Office (WFO), where he investigated crimes against U.S. persons and interests in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. In August 2001, he transferred to the Joint Terrorism Task Force at WFO and worked on a variety of counterterrorism cases both domestically and abroad. In November 2003, he became an instructor at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He was promoted in April 2006 to supervisor of the San Francisco Field Office’s cyber squad in the San Jose Resident Agency.

In May 2008, Mr. Boetig began an Intelligence Community Joint Duty Assignment as an FBI Counterterrorism Division Liaison Officer to the Central Intelligence Agency’s Counterterrorism Center. In this role, he coordinated multi-agency international counterterrorism operations.

In June 2010, he was promoted to assistant special agent in charge of the National Security Branch of the Oklahoma City Field Office, with oversight of all counterterrorism and cyber personnel.

Before joining the FBI, Mr. Boetig worked as a special agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and as a police officer in Auburn, Alabama.
