Navajo Nation DPS Crime Scene Technician Receives FBI Director’s Certificate

FBI Albuquerque September 16, 2011
  • Public Affairs Specialist Frank Fisher (505) 889-1438

Donovan Becenti, a Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety crime scene technician, has received an FBI Director’s Certificate for his many years of helping the Albuquerque FBI Division’s Evidence Response Team process crime scenes on the Navajo reservation.

Supervisory Senior Resident Agent Michael Harrigan presented the award to Becenti at the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation office in Crownpoint on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011.

Recently, Becenti and IOA Carol York, an ERT member in the Gallup Resident Agency, processed five scenes associated with a homicide and assault on the reservation.

They worked for about 14 hours straight.

This case is one example of dozens of scenes each year with which Becenti assists.

Besides being on-call with the Crownpoint office, which handles the largest of the Navajo police districts, Becenti has been a member of the New Mexico Safe Trails Task Force since 2004.
