Albany Maritza Martinez

Anchorage field office Director’s Community Leadership Award 2011

The Albany Division is pleased to honor Maritza Martinez, a leader of youth and educational programs, as a recipient of the 2012 Director’s Community Leadership Award.

Ms. Martinez is the director of the Educational Opportunities Program (EOP) at the University at Albany (UAlbany). The EOP provides admission opportunities for low-income New York state students who want to attend college and also supports students in academic, financial, social, and personal matters. Ms. Martinez demonstrates leadership through her personal involvement with the students. She also facilitates personal growth and development seminars, promotes effective study strategies, and encourages coalition building and community service. Under her leadership, the EOP at UAlbany has been recognized as a model program in New York state public higher education.

Ms. Martinez, an FBI Citizens Academy graduate and an active member of the Albany Division’s Community Engagement Council, has received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Services as well as the Governor’s Medallion for Hispanics of Distinction. In 2005, Ms. Martinez was honored as a YMCA Black and Latino Achiever.
