Skip Mason accepts the award from Director Mueller.

Skip Mason is currently the 33rd general (national) president of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He is also a member of Sigma Pi Phi (Kappa Boulé) and Prince Hall Masons, St. James Lodge Number 4. He is a member of Leadership Atlanta, the Society of American Archivists, and the Association for the Study of African-American Life and History; he serves on the board of the Martin Luther King Memorial Foundation; and he is a former member of the Atlanta branch of the NAACP board.

In May 2009, Mr. Mason signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a partnership between Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the FBI, through which the FBI seeks to share its role in federal law enforcement and responsibility in safeguarding the United States. This collaboration has enabled the FBI to build relationships through dialogue and has facilitated information sharing. As a result of the dialogue, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has joined with the FBI in various events, such as national leadership conferences, regional conferences, and retreats, to provide recruitment opportunities and communicate the role of the FBI through education and awareness.

Through the partnership with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc and the leadership of Mr. Mason, the FBI has graduated a number of Citizens’ Academy participants, recruited qualified applicants for Bureau careers, and afforded the FBI the opportunity to build a continuing relationship with an organization committed to excellence.

DCLA 2010

In a ceremony at FBI Headquarters, Director Robert S. Mueller, III recognized the recipients of the 2010 Director’s Community Leadership Award. These leaders, selected by their area FBI field office, have demonstrated outstanding contributions to their local communities through service. The FBI is grateful for the work of each of these individuals and organizations on behalf of their communities.

“Whatever the motivation—an unfilled need, a tragic occurrence, a desire to give back—these are people who make things happen and enlist others in their cause,” said Director Mueller. “They are activists who have earned their prestige through good works.”
